Storm Damage at Lake Guntersville Alabama Campground

October 26, 2011 § Leave a comment

We stayed at this campground a few years ago when we did a show in Guntersville.  We enjoyed it even though we had to seek shelter in the men’s bath room to wait out a tornado – so we decided to stop over on our way south for a night or two on our way south.  We were astounded to find that a majority of the large forest the contains the campground had been destroyed by four tornadoes in one day last April.  They lost cabins and a lot of campers as well as damage to the lodge – but no human casualties.

A small portion had been cleared of fallen trees and wind blown debris so that we were able to stay but we decided one night was enough – very sad!  The forest was thick with trees and now there are few.

This video does not show the devastation very well but gives an idea.
