Big Bass ‘Lake’ Campground Ocala NF Florida

The campground was on a lake years ago but the lake dried up. The campsite we are on backed up to the lake which is now prairie. The vegetation here is more traditional Florida with live oaks, shrub oaks, and palmettos being predominate unlike the Lake Dorr Campground we were at this past weekend with its tall pines. There is only about 15 miles between the two campgrounds.
Peg had a visitor this afternoon. They talked about how beautiful the weather was – t-shirts in the hot sun.
We will move farther south tomorrow. We hope it is not toooo hot down there!!!!
Between our site and the old lake bottom is a bridle path that winds through the forest. Along the highway which borders the national forest are some pretty spiffy horse farms that make use of the bridle paths in the area. A couple of riders rode past our site this afternoon but were gone before we could get the camera set. Of course, they were wearing their bright orange vests because it is hunting season here.
