We are at De Wayne Hayes Campground near Columbus MS on the Tenn-Tom Waterway where the barges pass close enough to touch (almost).
When out for our walk, we came upon a family of armadillos playing with one another. There were five of them but only one was digging for food. The others were wrestling around like kids will. Genia tells us that normal families of armadillos are four young so we figure the one was mom but there was not a perceptible size difference – they all were small.
They are growing fast and are digging for food all the time now.
Harrison went to study them down the street near our camp site up close and personal. For awhile, it seemed one would dig under his foot he was so close. When Harrison left them to go home, the close one ran after him trying to catch up. We didn’t know they could run that fast.
We finally had to turn on the air conditioning when the ambient temperature rose to 96. So we cancelled the salmon patties and made seafood salad.
