Near Miss

April 2, 2014 § 3 Comments

Last Friday at Isaac Creek campground a Corps of Engineers project on the Alabama River near Monroeville, Alabama we had a rude awakening around 4:00 AM when we heard a loud Whooomp!

There had been a lot of rain the day before and the ground was saturated.   A tree –  whole tree – had just decided to loose balance and fall across the road and into the woods near our campsite.  If it had been standing across the road from our campsite, it would have crushed our van with its trunk and its top limbs would have been on our trailer.  The fellow in the campsite on the other side of the fallen tree was in a tent but luckily had left just before the event.
