An Ah Ah Moment

December 5, 2014 § 2 Comments

We had not experienced rain in the Sonoran Desert since arriving here until the day before yesterday.  After the first of the little rain showers, we noticed an odor outside that we couldn’t put our finger on.  After moving to a new site yesterday, all of the rain had soaked into the desert and everything was dry.  This morning there was heavy dew and we noticed a stronger odor.  It smelled remarkedly like railroad ties. That’s when it dawned on us that our new site has more creosote bushes and they had become wet with the rain then the heavy dew.

It was a new experience for us Midwesterners.
