Our Motel Room on Wheels

May 27, 2015 § 2 Comments

We stayed in motels when we started participating in out of town juried art shows.  That is how we developed a dislike for motels many of which were not convenient to reasonably priced food.  We had finally stayed in too many motel rooms and decided to explore the possibility of taking our own motel room with us.

We decided that a van that would carry the art work and booth paraphernalia to the show would be convenient.  It needed to be large enough and powerful enough to also pull a reasonably sized trailer.  The trailer should be small enough to fit in a parking space for those times we park at a show.  So we bought the GMC Savana extended van and started looking at trailers.

We looked at all of the smaller tag along trailers with an eye for cooking our own food, showering,  and sleeping.

The Casita from Rice Texas seemed a good fit.  It was fully self contained and had a comfortable layout and would fit in a parking space.  So we ordered one.

We drove to Texas to pick up the trailer then drove through Houston to visit Mark and Charlotte then to Alabama to do an art show and that was the start of our own motel room on wheels.

That was March 2004.
